365 FILM CHALLENGE
15. The Monuments Men (2014, George Clooney)
Any war film, especially one relating to WWII, is guaranteed to be full of sadness and emotion. This one had a certain jokiness to it that I couldn’t relate to. I was in a theater full of elderly folk, and they kept guffawing loudly at moments that were only mildly entertaining (if even that). It almost felt like another Oceans Eleven movie, only set in the 1940s.
I appreciate that it was based on a true story (a group of dedicated men set out to save precious works of art from the grasp of Hitler and his Nazi minions). However, there were too many war cliches and monotone performances for me to feel completely invested in the characters.

And yet I’m still nobody’s choice.
Welcome to my world.
So much love for this scene.
