I finished watching the documentary Side by Side today, and I cannot recommend it enough. It’s about celluloid vs. digital film, and it’s a great debate, not a take-that back and forth. Keanu Reeves is the host/interviewer for this, and he’s actually really cool in it. Great questions, good vibe. This doesn’t feel like the usual talking heads documentary. And the people involved? Well, check out the trailer. Some of cinema’s leaders weighing in on an interesting topic.
I must see this.

The trailer for the Vivian Maier documentary is out, and it looks sogood.
You might recall the incredible story — Vivian was a nanny living a double life as a street photographer in the 50s and 60s but has since passed away.
Her work only recently discovered when a historian, John Maloof, found hundreds of thousands of developed and undeveloped negatives.

I had the privilege of seeing two “chapters” of the new documentary Girl Rising — which tells the brief, often sweet, and often heartbreaking stories of ten girls in developing countries who are determined to get an education — at two separate events at Sundance this week. It’s beautifully crafted and full of hope rather than pity.
The education gender gap is shocking in so many parts of the world; the 10x10 campaign is doing incredible things to change this, which is an inspiration to me as I work with Ladies Trekking and its much more niche effort to bring educational opportunities to more girls.
You can sign up to host a screening in March in your city. Please check it out and help bring it to your town.

This has the potential to be awful, but I’ll probably see it anyway.

#Aftershock. Coming soon.
I’d watch anything that Eli Roth is in.
